Dr Weezenbeek leads the WHO AMR/SPC Department which primarily focuses on human health aspects of AMR and related response strategies such as infection prevention and control, laboratory strengthening and diagnostic stewardship, rational treatment, surveillance of AMR and antimicrobial consumption/use.

Dr Soumya Swaminathan is the Chief Scientist at the World Health Organization, after serving as the Deputy Director-General of Programmes. A paediatrician from India and a globally recognized researcher on tuberculosis and HIV, she brings with her 30 years of experience in clinical care and research and has worked throughout her career to translate research into impactful programmes. Dr Swaminathan was Secretary to the Government of India for Health Research and Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research from 2015 to 2017.

Dr Pakishe Aaron Motsoaledi is the current Minister of Home Affairs in South Africa. He previously served as the Minister of Health and holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from the University of Natal. Prior to his appointment as Minister of Health, Dr Motsoaledi was member of the Limpopo Provincial Legislature from 1994 to 2009 where he held such positions as MEC for Education, Transport and Agriculture.
